When I first moved to Charleston about three years ago, I made it a point to go to every Oyster Roast I could find. I could not believe I went 22 years of life without experiencing one. If the month has an “r” in it, the rule is its prime time for oysters and prime time for a roast. Check Facebook and your bound to find a few occurring in Charleston for events and fundraisers or at restaurants like Pearlz, Red’s Ice House or Bowen’s Island. Or host your own backyard oyster roast with friends. Buy bushels from your favorite neighborhood seafood market like Crosbys or Huffs, hose them down and throw them on a fire or in a steam pot. There isn’t a more cheap, easy or fun way to feed a crowd.
