Located about an hour from downtown on Edisto Island, Botany Bay is a 4,000 something acre wildlife preserve with a really unique beach that is cool to explore if looking for a new place to check off your Charleston Bucket List.
The beach is quite different from the likes of Sullivan’s or Folly, scattered with unique shells, jagged trees jetting out from the water and untouched marshland. It really is a photographer lovers dream or in my case, slice of heaven for the Instagram-obsessed.
If you are into camping, you can also set up tent on the beach or further inland in the maritime forest for an overnight or weekend escape. For the barely camping camper (aka me) there are also seven climate controlled cabins available for rent- which I really want to check out with some friends this summer or fall. Will report back!
You can also book Botany Bay Ecotours that depart from the Edisto Marina with options like “Fishing 101”, “Dolphin Cruise,” “Gullah Tour” and “Sunset Cruise.”
